Frog Rain Song

As the sky darkened to the color of the shale, the foundation of this mountain, I could hear the distant thunder approach. The tree frogs also heard and called out, “Party! Party tonight!” Another roar of thunder -- this one closer. “Hop on over, we’ll meet at the pool.” Clash, rumble, rumble, then the soft sound of the first few drops increasing slowly, like when my Girl Scout troop made rain by rubbing our fingers and hands together. Now, snapping fingers. “Hurry, pool party about to begin,” they called. More thunder, the stomping of feet and the perfect summer rain is upon us. My tomatoes, cucumber and squash thank you. The Black Eyed Susans thank you. The tree frogs thank you and O goddess, bringer of rain, I thank you for the childhood memory and the joyful sounds of the little gray tree frogs.

Check out this link to the choir, Perpetuum Jazzile, using their hands to simulate a storm like I did as a young girl scout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05ip-N0H1Ig

Love the topic of this post and the artful way you wrote it! Great link! Neat how we both posted on on topics and included links regarding sounds this week. And frogs are certainly edible too!

It's not just anyone who understands frog; being multilingual must come in handy.

Beautiful photo, and a perfectly chosen selection of words. I could almost smell the rain.

Thanks for your kind visit.

There is something about warm summer rain, as the frogs know, that is wonderful. Never done that hand rain thing but I'm off to try it now.
