Wildness

Have I been tamed like the House Sparrows in the park that eat the droppings and leftovers of lunches, popcorn and cheetos? Has it been cheated out of the blackberries free on the vine? Would it even recognize its own local supply of fruits or the seeds growing at the edge of the city park?
Would I know if I had lost my wildness?

More food for thought, thanks! You ask some really good questions. Time to take up fishing and hunting. See you at Women Outdoors!

The photo does seem as if the house sparrow is wondering and pondering "something just isn't right here"...so maybe you would too!

Interesting thoughts. Cute wondering sparrow.

A excellent thought to ponder. I hope this little sparrow does not depend on humans for food.

I love your sparrow picture! We call them 'rare birds' now, because they were put on the RSPB's endangered list because their numbers were declining dramatically. We still see them in the garden though!

Provocative post!

Lovely photo. The house sparrow declined in numbers recently - though you wouldn't know it from the number visiting my garden!

On behalf of the Team, thanks for joining in.

Trillium, as always your are encouraging.

Wanda, you know I never even noticed the expression on that little bird, but I agree.

photwannabe & Tumblewords, I hope you find meaning for yourself to these thoughts.

SquirrelQueen, I'm afraid that little bird probably does depend on the food left in the park. He lives at Dupont Circle in Washington, DC. I have actually fed some of them by hand.

Jay and Dragonstar, OMG we have sooo many around here. The early pilgrams brought them along when they settled in the US and they have done well here. They are almost like Vultures because they keep the parks clean of dropped food.

Thanks to all for visiting.

The stones in the background seem to complement the bird, colorwise.

Very thought-provoking. I grew up on a farm where we ate mostly what we raised ourselves. Nowadays, I think I "need" soda and convenience foods to get by. Summer's vegetable garden has produced a bounty of green beans and tomatoes, though. We'll be eating these all winter from the freezer! Thanks for visiting my ABC post and the nice comment.

Roger, those stone are the sidewalk at the park. I'm not sure this little guy knows what stones really are. He does know fountains and statues.

Rose, I know what you mean by "need". Everything in our society keeps telling us we "need" things it is hard not to get those things. Sounds like you are doing well with your garden.
