Sounds of wings

They came as a small flock, three titmice and one chickadee. Like a biker club traveling the back roads looking for adventure and a good out-of-the way diner. The chick came to the deck first to see if food was being served. Then others flew down onto the deck to feast on the meal worms laid out especially for them. I love the sound of their wings as they fly from branch to the deck rail and back to the safety of the tree to dine. The whirrrrr. Then without notice they all moved on. It is a quiet, simple morning sitting with a friend and wild companions. The hummer stops briefly to see what we are up to. Its wing beats like a quiet hummm. The beat of my own heart slows and relaxes. Quiet solitude. A bee with its high pitch buzzzzz flies by.

Such a sweet, late-summer lazy day scene! And what beautiful photos of birds! It's one of the treasures of autumn, that our flocks of titmice and chickadees and goldfinches that have spent the summer far afield, will soon be returning to our in-town backyard feeders, consoling us about the oncoming winter.

Cheryl, Teena, Eileen, Kathy, Wanda, Chicamom, Denise, Dancin Fool, Mara - thank you all for the nice compliments.

Woodswalker - I think my local flock will be here all winter. They consume tons of mealworms that I grow for them.

Carletta -Thank you. Do you have a Master Naturalist program in your area? It is a fun group.

Trillium - It was a nice way to spend the day watching and listening to birds as we wrote and painted. Thanks.
