Deceptive Dogwoods

Have you ever bought something from the store that was in a big box and you opened it up to discover the item inside was tiny? That is kind of what dogwood flowers are like. They have big white petals that attract you but when you look closer you think, “hey, those aren’t petals at all, they’re modified leaves called bracts.” Those tiny little yellow things are the flowers. You don’t know weather to feel fooled or impressed. If dogwoods could talk they would say, “Ha, ha…I got ya!”

I’m not sure I can change dogwoods but
I would sure like to see smaller packaging on our store shelves.
Wouldn’t you?

Beautiful! I've been admiring the pink ones and white ones in my neighborhood, too. But I didn't know I was pretty much missing the flowers!

The beautiful Dogwood can stay the way it is, and thanks I didn't know that, but as for packaging it could be reduced by plenty.

Oh I can hear all those pink and white dogwoods laughing at me right now. I have been taking macro shots for the past week of the 'bloom' but I never really looked at anything other than the bracts! Oh well they are still beautiful.

Yes to reducing the packaging.

So flowers deceive to. This looks like flower within a flower, and you see a surprise as you look closer. That's the beauty of nature.
