Southern Driving

After the Corn Meal purchase I drove along I-10 into Atlanta, Georgia while I listened to Jeff Foxworthy on a cassette tape. He was doing his routine about "You know you are a red neck when... . It seemed appropriate to my location. After Jeff did his thing I put in a tape read by Matt Damon of Howard Zinn's "Peoples History". Ironically this section of the tape was about the civil rights movement and about that time I was in Birmingham. It is a good book and I recomend it for a complete history of the US.

The rain began to pour and driving was tense and difficult. Since I was off my planned course I had to find a place to stay. I chose Lake Lurleen State Park just out side of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Lake Lourleen was named for Alabama's first and only female Governor, Lurleen B. Wallace.

The lake is 250 acres with all modern facilities. A couple of domestic geese greeted me as I stepped out of my camper into the dark of night to register.

In the morning, after a night of wind and rain I was able to see where I was.

This is a view of the lake from my camper.  There were only 4 other campers in the campground.

I didn't stay long or look around but rather I left early and headed west. It was still overcast but that made for good driving.

I remember several of those Jeff Foxworthy jokes. When I heard them for the first time they really cracked me up. We have read the People's History book, it is excellent. Enjoyed the pictures and happy traveling.
