The Devils Golf Course, Death Valley

Salt defines this area; in fact the floor of Death Valley is like a plate of evaporating salty water covering more than 200 square miles. It is everywhere in Death Valley which is also noted as being one of the largest saltpans in North America.  Here at the Devils Golf Course I could see the salt crystals shaped by winds and rain, looking like tiny pointed mountain ranges.

I thought that if I touched the crystals they would just crumble but walking into the "Course" was a little tricky because it is so sharp and rock hard.  One could easily fall and be cut to pieces here.

I was the only one at the Devils Golf Course. I couldn’t believe it wasn’t crowded with visitors.

I felt like I was waiting for someone to chase me off but that didn’t happen.  I was constantly surprised how much of the land I could explore on my own and not have to stay on sidewalks.
It just seemed to go on forever.

Wow. I've always heard about Death Valley but it was never described so specifically. All this time I imagined it was like the Sahara -- giant dunes of sand. Thanks for enlightening me, Cheryl!

You survived! That looks like a real mean place.
